Heidi Stensmyren joins Tandem Health to strengthen AI adoption in European healthcare

News

Dr Heidi Stensmyren has built her career at the center of clinical leadership. She has led the World Medical Association and the Swedish Medical Association, shaped national policy in Sweden, and held senior roles at Karolinska University Hospital. As an anaesthesiologist and intensive care specialist, she brings a clear understanding of what clinicians need to deliver safe, focused patient care.

Her move to Tandem Health comes at a time when administrative pressure is reshaping the clinical day. Eighty two percent of European clinicians say admin limits the time they can spend with patients, according to our Time to Care report where we surveyed 1,000 clinicians across Europe.

A clear focus on reducing admin for clinicians

Heidi has long advocated for professional autonomy and better working conditions. She sees the rapid progress in AI assisted documentation as a practical way to ease daily administrative work. In her new role, she will help healthcare systems adopt tools that simplify documentation and protect clinicians’ time with patients.

Her appointment has already drawn attention in Sweden, with Dagens Medicin covering the news and highlighting her commitment to advancing responsible AI use in healthcare.

Strengthening Tandem’s clinical direction

Tandem is now Europe’s most widely adopted AI assistant for clinicians, used across more than one thousand healthcare organisations in over ten countries. The adoption reflects a clear need from clinicians who want simpler documentation and more presence with patients. Time to Care findings show the same trend, with clinicians ranking admin reduction as a top priority for improving the quality of care.

Heidi will guide the next stage of this work, partnering with healthcare leaders and policymakers to support responsible, large scale implementation across Europe.
